DISCUSSION PAPER 2
“She found a charging station with a USB adapter port”
There was a charging system with part to connect the USB adapter in it. There is a step-
down a transformer that found at station k that is stepping down the normal potential difference
of electricity known for domestic usage which ranges from 220V to 240V to 5V (Picard, 2017).
A step-down transformer converts electricity from a high voltage to a lower voltage. K
related to both electricity and magnetism since transformers works on the principle of induction.
“…… She was determined after this to use the portable solar charger”
There is a small red LED just next to her phone’s screen. LED is an abbreviation of Light
Emitting Diode and the LED works on the principle of electroluminescence, which is stated that
when a suitable current (ie current) is applied across the diode (LED), electrons start to
recombine with holes thus releasing energy in the form of protons. Thus, the fact above is
directly related to electricity and light
“Italy’s Electricity was generated by burning fossil fuels…..”
Burning fossils fuels was a very common method used to generate electricity. Italy was
not left behind in this kind of production of electricity and Mandy learned about it. The steam
produced which had a high pressure was used to rotate turbines which later generated electricity
by electromagnetic induction.
