Introduction
In every economy, healthcare service is an essential asset. To ensure a country meets the
healthcare demand and innovated technology, medical practitioners, especially the nurses, need
to acquire the skill and knowledge that matches the innovation. Despite efforts to increase
medical practitioners' capability through training, the challenge remains in understanding the gap
between education and quality rendered in clinical practices. The deficiency prevents the health
workforce from providing quality services. Development in aspects associated with healthcare
determines professional growth. Many professionals participate in professional development
programs by using various means (Harper and Bindon, 2020). Coaching and mentoring are
typical modes related to professional development, including those in the health care sector, for
example, the nursing career.
Incorporation of mentoring and coaching are acknowledged to be significant in the career
development of experienced nurses in different medical faculties, including clinical practice and
case study. The event apprehends patient satisfaction. Coaching and mentoring techniques are
widely incorporated to empower and develop skills in different fields. Coaching focuses on the
improvement of performance. Mentoring includes forming a sustained relationship to allow
knowledge and skill transfer from an experienced individual in a specific area to a less
experienced person to promote improvement in performance, professional development, and also
personal growth of the mentee (Tichelaar et al., 2013). It is essential to identify that that new
graduates and student nurses encounter numerous challenges while transitioning from school to
work. Some of the barriers are heavy workload and poor communication. Hence, mentoring and
coaching are essential in eliminating the problems and developing the necessary skills required
in a clinical setting.
