In view of a national nursing shortage and nursing education not keeping pace with
workforce demands, how would you ensure an adequate supply of nurses in your
organization? What short-term and long-term actions would you propose?
The nursing shortage has become a national challenge impacting health care operations and
the quality of services to patients. Hence, the health care administrators need to adopt appropriate
measures that will contribute to an adequate supply of nurses in health care organizations to ensure
quality health care services. The critical steps that I will implement to guarantee good supply of
nurses in my health care facility include rewarding and recognizing. This activity will help retain
the current and attract new nurses to work in the healthcare organization. Rewarding is vital in
promoting the nurse's motivation to ensure effective care to patients. The other strategy that I will
implement to guarantee an adequate supply of nurses is utilizing the onboarding programs to
ensure the new nurses welcome new nurses to work in the health care organization. This strategy
helps at reducing the nurses turnover rate to newly recruited nurses and creates an attractive
working environment.
The other strategy is investing in long-term training and professional development. In order
to keep an adequate supply of nurses, I will focus on investing in long-term training and
professional development of nurses to enhance better care services. The other strategy that I will
implement to guarantee an adequate supply of nurses is making the current nurses be recruiters
and offering incentives for referrals such as financial compensation. This will encourage the
current nurse to encourage other nurses to work in the health care facility. The other strategy is
offering alternative schedules to accommodate the personal and professional needs of nurses
easily. This is important in creating a conducive working environment, thus attracting more nurses
to work in the healthcare organization. In conclusion, the long-term and short-term action will
