Marketing of Products and Services
Similarities among the Marketing of Services and Products
There are numerous similarities among them, the diversity of products and services. The
marketing of products and services requires the availability of different packages to suit different
target markets. For instance, various flavors of biscuits (product) and various types of airline
offerings (service). The other similarity is that both products and services need to have robust
distribution systems. The consumer wants to know where they can get ahold of the same.
Therefore, that information should be included in the marketing strategy. Lastly, both products
and services require an effective promotion strategy. The consumer has to know of their
existence, which cannot happen without active promotions that include marketing (Yankai,
2014). There has to be the use of diverse channels to cover the target market efficiently.
Differences between the Marketing of Products and Services
There are certainly some differences when it comes to the marketing of products and
services. The first difference is that for a product, the marketer has something to show. Therefore
the marketer does not need to connect to the audience or say a lot about the product. As for the
service, the marketer must communicate to the audience while marketing. This is due to the
intangibility aspect of the service. The marketer here has to ensure that they show the potential
customer their ability to customize the service to their wants and needs to help in trapping a
majority of the market share (Yankai, 2014). The second difference is that service marketing
demands that the marketer establish trust with the clientele. The reason for this is due to the
immediate consumption nature of the services. Once a consumer purchases a service, they cannot
return it and therefore, they are likely to only buy from those providers who market in such a
way that they earn the trust of the consumer. The product, on the other hand, is tangible, and the
