The difference between the Northern States and Southern States in religion, education, and
economy.
The North and South states have significant differences in their operations. In consideration of
the economy, Northern states were industry inclined while the Southern States were inclined to
agriculture. North states had industries and revolutionized activities including machines, and
farm equipment. South States relied on farming and their major form of labor was slaves. Hence,
while the North developed economically by selling their manufactured products, the South
benefited by selling their agricultural produce. In political, the North belonged to the Republican
party while the South supported the Democratic party (American Battlefield Trust, 2022).
Significantly, the North relied on religious beliefs and values to guide their practices and help
them condemn slavery. South States, however, used religion to support the practice of slavery in
the country.

What was the first state to secede and had this state attempted anything like this before?
The first state in American history to secede was South Carolina. The secession followed the
1860 election in which Abraham Lincoln became the president of the United States. The
Southern state held the belief that as a Republican, the president would dissolve the institution of
slavery. In most instances, states seceded when they felt that the government did not accomplish
its obligations. South Carolina, thus, took the initiative by indicating that the secession was
driven by the need to avoid a government that was favoring only the states that were against
slavery (Rodriguez, 2007). The state had attempted the secession before 1860 soon after the
