User dialogue strategies used in Menu-driven interface
Designing a user interface requires the developer to understand the customers' needs and
develop an interface that will support the user in fulfilling their needs. The menu-driven interface
has remained very relevant and popular among the developers due to its integral role in enabling
the user to navigate the software application easily. During the development of the user interface,
graphical techniques become essential in presenting the user choices while at the same time
displaying the instructions, which help the users in the selection of their desired actions on the
interface (Foster, 2014). Several dialogue strategies are used in a Menu-driven interface.
Menu bars. This is a strategy located on the top side of the screen within a software
application. This type of strategy is commonly used in desktop computer applications and tables.
The strategy has various options such as files, edit View besides help center. These features make
the application interface more familiar to the users. In the use of the application, the users are
required to click on "menu," which displays the list of useful items to select from by navigating on
the interface using a mouse or a finger for the touch-enabled screen (Foster, 2014). The users
navigate the interface to select their required action by pointing and clicking on the icon. The menu
enables users to move across the application through the user interface, discover and learn easily
through the provision of indicators on the "menu" where icons are located, and use the keyboard
shortcuts and the mouse to navigate.
Toolbars, iconic menu besides palettes. These are dialogue strategies that are applied in
some Menu-driven interfaces. These strategies offer users options to take actions that enable them
to navigate and select the action intended by clicking on the icon.
