1. Major Advertising Decisions That Marketing Managers Need to Make When
Developing A Healthy Eating Campaign for Children.
From the case study "promoting unhealthy food to children," childhood obesity and
the role of unhealthy foods to children is a significant issue of concern, especially in the
United States. However, the issue is rarely on the news. Consumption of harmful foods is
a crucial risk factor for chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, and blood pressure.
Children are at risk of consuming unhealthy foods because of public advertisements. Due
to the risks associated with consuming junk foods for children, the World Health
Organization has released a set of recommendations to protect children against the effects
of marketing unhealthy foods.
However, marketing managers must make major decisions when developing a healthy
eating campaign for children. A marketing communication's effectiveness depends on the
creative impact and market coverage. In this case, coverage refers to the frequency at
which the advertisement will reach children and media means. Various mediums deliver
advertisements to children. Examples include television advertisement, in-school
marketing, product placements, internet and toys [products with brand logos. To promote
a healthy eating campaign for children, marketing managers should ensure their various
mediums of advertisements focus on healthy foods rather than junk. For example,
television advertisements should focus on healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables
rather than foods rich in high sugar and fat. Television advertising should offer nutritional
eating recommendations for children to reach an increased number of audiences. Also,
marketing managers use school marketing to develop product loyalty and attract many
customers. Therefore, marketing managers should focus on healthy foods for in-school
