CFI IN ANXIETY CARE 2
CFI in Anxiety Care
The DSM-5 is a questionnaire created by international experts relating to the field of
mental health care. This questionnaire yields a framework that helps to define as well as classify
mental disorders so that proper diagnosis, treatment, and research can be conducted or adhered
to. It is from the DSM-5 that experts gather a cultural formulation interview (CFI). The CFI
consists of fourteen questions that mental health experts have their patients answer to gather
information about relating to health assessment protocols to determine how a patient’s cultural
factors impact the care they receive. The cultural background analysis extends into the
background of the patient that allows for them to provide their perspectives and assumptions of
themselves and others within their social group. The purpose of this paper is to gather pertinent
information from an interviewee to create a report on the use of the CFI relating to the anxiety
disorder they have potentially developed. This report also involves multiple answers to questions
on the DSM-5 application of CFI in anxiety care determination.
To become better engaged with my partner, I used my active listening skills, made direct
eye contact to ensure they knew I was actively listening to their answers, as well as affirmation.
There were many techniques used in this role play as I introduced myself before explaining to
her what the conversation was aimed at achieving. I wanted her to understand that I wanted to
get to the root of her problems so that a proper and efficient recommendation could be achieved
in allowing her to obtain the best mental health treatment possible. Some of my focuses was
trying to understand her background, experiences, and ideas that she had concerning the situation
she was dealing with in terms of her anxiety. Therefore, using the cultural definition of the
problem enabled me to establish a confident mood that could elicit trust and accurate details.
