The Four Lenses
The liberal arts perspective aims to prepare students in problem-solving for real-world
challenges. Therefore, the four lenses provide a new perspective on objects and situations
encountered by students. The first lens is humanities which is a discipline in liberal arts
concerned with the study of actions and work by humans. The types of evidence include
autobiographies, eyewitness accounts, and letters. The second is a social science lens that
explores the impact of human actions in the social environment. The types of evidence used in
this lens include photographs, maps, and letters. Natural science is the study of the physical
world, including studies such as biology and physics. Under natural science, the types of
evidence used include experiments such as animal and cell studies, systematic reviews, and
observation such as case studies. The last is the history lens, perhaps the most familiar lens that
provides a story of humanity's past events. The common types of evidence used in this lens can
be classified into four groups: written, visual, physical, and oral evidence. Therefore, these
evidence include printed sources such as newspapers and books, archives, oral testimony, and
physical evidence. These evidence provides an analysis of past events by humans. Based on the
characteristics noted, social science is similar to the history lens. This is because social science
studies the impact of human actions while history describes past events, which are often
explained by the impact of human actions. Major differences are noted between humanities and
natural science since humanities explored human action while natural science explores the
physical world (Lib guides, n, d).
Research Topic
The topic I selected is climate control, which controls the temperature in a given setup. On a
global scale, climate control seeks to establish better ways of controlling greenhouse gas
