What type of staff performance indicators would you monitor to ensure you were meeting
your budget? How would you monitor these indicators?
Irrespective of the industry, when conducting staff appraisals, managers concentrate
incompetency in crucial aspects. Essentially, key performance indicators (KPIs) are the
components of an entity’s plan that outline the objectives and the timeframe for achieving them.
KPIs are measurable, outcome-based elements a firm uses to measure and determine whether or
not it is on track to meet the objectives (Kerzner, 2017). Staff performance indicators are crucial
in monitoring how effectively the employees are performing. Although implementing these
indicators may be challenging, when executed well can benefit both the employees as well as the
company. Therefore, tracking and measuring staff performance indicators is essential to the
success and growth of an organization.
One of the staff performance indicators that will be monitored to ensure that the
organization is meeting its budget is work quality. The work quality is an important indicator that
highlights the quality of staff performance. One of the most important ways of monitoring work
quality is through a subjective appraisal (Mayne, 2017). An important way to structure the
subjective appraisal is through the use of management by objectives. Management by objective
is an important model that is aimed at improving the overall performance of an organization
through translating the organizational goals into individual specific goals. The employee
performance, in this case, is assessed through periodical performance reviews using criteria that
evaluate the quality of their work (Mayne, 2017).
