REFLECTIVE TEACHING 2
Reflective teaching is a self-assessment of teaching where the examiner looks into what
they have been teaching and identify areas where there are loopholes and strengthen them. They
also explain how they are teaching and how best to improve the learning system.
The five activities for job-embedded professional development according to Fig 3.1(pg. 70)
chapter 3 are
1. Observe other teachers teach
2. Coach one another
3. Mentor new teachers
4. Plan lessons and units with other teachers
5. Conduct action research projects.
How each activity supports reflective teaching?
1. Observe other teachers' teach.
By observing other teachers teach, teachers get to learn new skills and techniques in the field.
Teachers help to identify areas that need growth and enhancement by observation done on other
teachers. By observing other teachers, they get to improve on their self & awareness concerning
the teaching department. Lastly, observation helps create a professional learning community for
the teachers.
2. Coach one another
By coaching each other in the education field, teachers will get to acquire new teaching techniques
gotten from the new teachers. Teachers also get motivated and always want to give their best while
teaching (Einstein, 2011). They get inspiration from other qualified and well-trained teachers by
being coached. The well-trained teachers inspire them by coaching them and making them good
teachers.
