This course has helped in improving my presentation of high quality arguments through
an understanding of the various components that make up a quality argument. The ability to
think logically ensures that I can base my thoughts on facts and take emotions out of the
equation. Most of the time emotions tend to cloud one’s judgment. Through logical thinking, I
can be able to weigh all the available options using facts and even statistics to make conclusions
and decisions. This eventually translates to construction of good arguments. An example of how
logical thinking could help in the workplace would be on the projection of future trends in sales.
Through logical thinking, i can be able to analyze previous trends and look at the market
environment to project the expected sales. Consequently, it would be possible to present such
facts to team members and they would buy the idea.
Many factors may hinder good judgment when it comes to the quality of reasoning. For
instance, there could be a very eloquent and humorous speaker and people may misinterpret that
for high quality reasoning. However, for someone like me with the skill of evaluating the quality
of reasoning, such a mistake would be rare. The skill helps in first understanding both sides of
arguments before commenting on them. This means that there is no rush and therefore there is
minimization of errors. Additionally, the skill equipped me with the knowhow of evaluating the
form, content and the context of the speech. Therefore, I have the ability to look at the
conclusion of the argument, tie it to the body and the introduction of the speech to determine the
truthfulness and viability of the argument.
