Chapter 4: Data Analysis, Research Findings and Discussion
4.1 Introduction
Based on the outcome of the data collection process, a number of aspects could be
derived from the correlations. These were presented in form of tables, charts and graphs. In this
chapter, the results of the interview shall be critically analyzed in a bid to deduce tacit
conclusions alongside specific themes related to the topic. It would be crucial to emphasize that
the core objective of the research process was to identify and record the perceptions of residents
and tourists on the influence of backpackers in Indonesia. Consequently, data analysis has been
disseminated into a number of components. First of all, the summary will be made on the
demographic details before the analysis is shifted to the aspect of perception on Indonesia as a
backpacking destination. Secondly, the responses of the respondents on backpacking shall be
analyzed. This shall then be followed by a critical analysis of the respondents’ perceptions on the
impacts of backpackers on Indonesia. The next level of analysis involves a review of the
respondents’ perception thoughts in relation to other South East Asian countries. The last phase
of the systematic analysis shall be a discussion of the respondents’ perceptions on the behavior
of backpackers in Indonesia. This chapter shall then be summarized by evaluating the analysis
and findings before making a tacit conclusion on the issue of study followed by the appropriate
recommendations.

4.2 Analysis and Findings
4.2.1 Demographic details
Based on the chart above, it can be deduced that a good number of the respondents during the
process of data collection were males. It therefore implies that the number of females who took
part in the process was less by about 9% compared to the number of men. 1.52% of the total
number of respondents were not keen on identifying their gender. The summary as indicated by
the pie chart above therefore comprises an accumulative data of both the indigenous and
international respondents. The other element worth noting in this case is the fact that most of the
responses used to conclude the research process came from the males. Despite the fact that the
numbers are not far apart, the higher number of men only implies the outcome of the findings
may come, slightly, from the male point of view. This though has no effect on the final
conclusion.
