Abstract
This research is located in Kerek, Kabupaten Ngawi, East Java. This area is located in 7° 22' 00"
LS - 7°24' 30" LS & 111° 27' 30" BT - 111° 29' 30" BT and this area is about 17 km
2
wide. The
purpose of this research is to make the geological map and determine the geomorphological
units, stratigraphy units, geological structure, and geological history of Kerek. The method of
this research is study of the literature, field observation, and laboratory experiment.
Geomorphology of research area is divided into fold hills unit, homoclinal hills unit, and railroad
river unit. Stratigraphy of research area is divided into 8 units, that is sandstone-tuff unit that
deposited on Late Miocene, tuff I unit that deposited on Early Pliocene, marl unit that deposited
on Early Pliocene, limestone unit that deposited on Early Pliocene, tuff II unit that deposited on
Early Pliocene, breccia unit that deposited on Late Pliocene, railroad river unit that deposited on
Holocene, and alluvial unit that deposited on Holocene. Geological structure that developed in
this area is Kerek reverse fault trending northeast-southwest and Banyuurip transform fault
trending north-south.
Keywords: Kerek, Ngawi, Stratigraphy, Geolomorphology

INTRODUCTION
Kerek is a village located in Ngawi, East
Java Province. Geographically, Kerek is
located on 7
o
22’ 00” LS 7
o
27’ 30” LS
and 111
o
29’ 30” BT 111
o
29’ 30” BT.
This location is about 17km
2
wide area. The
village adjoining with Bojonegoro on the
north, Sragen on the east and Nganjuk on
the west. The Village is also passed through
by Bengawan Solo river. Almost all of
Kerek’s people come from Java & Madura
and working as a farmer. Kerek is located on
the far north of Ngawi so the village rarely
been the object of geological research.
Because of that, analysis needs to be done to
give information about geological structure,
lithology, and geomorphological unit in
Kerek village. The purpose of this research
is to make the geological map and determine
the geomorphological units, stratigraphy
units, geological structure, and geological
history of Kerek.
METHODOLOGY
This research begins with study of the
literature about regional geology of Kerek.
This study is conducted to get general
information about research area, such as
deployment of rocks, stratigraphic relations
between rocks unit and geological structure
of the area. Next step is field observation.
Field observation is conducted for data
retrieval, such as surface geological
mapping, rock sampling, strike and dip
measurement, structural data measurement,
geomorphological observation, and location
plotting.
After the necessary data has been collected,
laboratory experiment is performed for
micropaleontology analysis and
determination of depositional environment.
Micropaleontology analysis is performed to
determine relative age of the research area.
Besides that, petrographic analysis is also
performed for identification of rock’s
composition and determining unit lithology
of the research area. Structural data analysis
is also performed to analyze the deformation
which has occurred in that area. Next step is
making a map, such as, geomorphological
map, geological map that includes condition
& structure of the research area, and cross
section mapping that includes relative age
analysis of the rocks sample, and
depositional environment. Last step is
making a model of geological history of the
research area.
