Hatcheries
Question 1: Hatcheries
Hatcheries are operated by the staff utilizing a mechanical system and electroanesthesia
in a bid for increasing the efficiency of eggs collection. Such a system plays an essential role in
eliminating the handling of lively adult salmon, thus limiting wear as well as tear on hatchery
staff. Parent fish comes from the wild river. Laval and Juvenile salmon are produced by the
hatcheries staff separating the eggs from each female into four bins. Then, the staff spans each
bin with diverse furthest-connected males (Murphy, 2019). After eggs have hatched and grown
into juveniles, the staffs are expected to load the juveniles into portable backpacks and release
them into historical spawning tributaries.
Question 2: Impacts of Hatcheries
Hatcheries negatively affect the wild salmon population by interfering with their
spawning and weakening their gene pool. In addition, hatchery programs lower the population of
wild salmon since it produces large numbers of juvenile salmon that often competes with wild
salmon for habitat as well as food (Murphy, 2019). Moreover, the waste products of juvenile
salmon can reduce the population of wild salmon since they favor the growth of microorganisms
that directly harm them. On the other hand, hatcheries affect the human population such as
Native Americans by exposing them to a guaranteed supply of seafood. In this context, they
improve their well-being. Moreover, hatcheries provide a large number of fish that generate a lot
of revenue for the Native Americans. In addition, hatcheries affect communities where
malnutrition is a problem. It particularly assists Native Americans to acquire nutrient-dense food.
They also provide many employment opportunities to the human population (Murphy, 2019).
