WOMEN AND ETHNIC INDIVIDUALS IN POLITICS 2
Introduction
In US politics, racial and gender discrimination exists, which makes it hard for women as
well as individuals from different ethnic groups to run for political positions. In Congress, for
example, the number of females is far less compared to that of men. Also, the US has never had a
female president, which shows that Americans consider the US presidential position to be for men
and not women. When it comes to ethnic groups, individuals who are not white Americans find it
difficult to obtain supporters due to the nature of white Americans being racists. This ends up
favoring white candidates during elections.
Pitfalls that women and ethnic individuals face in the world of politics
In the world of politics, there are several pitfalls that ethnic individuals and women are
likely to face. First, the suitability of a female candidate running for any political position is
determined by her physical appearance. Despite the achievements made by a woman, they are

candidates. These ads influence American citizens to make voting decisions based on a candidate’s
race (Hutchings, 2012).
In my opinion, the system in America allows women and ethnic individuals to pursue
politics. However, these individuals are discriminated against in the world of politics. For example,
one woman said that when she was first running for a position in a public office, she was often
