Background Information        Air pollution is the presence or introduction of harmful pollutants in the atmosphere (Vallero, 2014). Some of the common pollutants include sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide carbon monoxide, lead, soot, and dust particles. Air pollution can be caused by both natural and human activities (Boubel et al., 2014). Natural causes of air pollution includes volcanic eruption, natural radioactivity, wind erosion, and forest fires (Smith, 2012). Human activities that result in air pollution include burning fossil fuels, industrial emission, agricultural activities, mining operations, and indoor air pollution (Guarnieri & Balmes, 2014). Burning fossil fuels is the major contributor to air pollution (Vallero, 2014). Primary emitters of fossil fuel include vehicles, trains, airplanes, and shipping vessels.
