Kingdom of North Korea (Johnson 76). In this fictional book, Johnson brings to light the aspects
of suffering and deprivation of human life that results in the rise of North Korea defectors from
the camps. The author narrates the story basing its argumentation on the first-hand information

and debate about Johnson’s fictional book as to whether it's a realistic depiction of North Korea,
or it's just an over-exaggerated novel that is embellished to make it more exciting and dramatic for
the reader (Allen 24). Johnson’s The Orphan Master's Son is a clear depiction of the horrific
nature that defines North Korea society and not just an over the top exaggerated novel; because
it creates imaginable scenes of inhumanity through intriguing plot twists, incredible scenes, and
well-formed characters; that are sometimes difficult to believe for readers given that the depiction
opens a frightening and scaring window into the lives of the Kingdom of North Korea.
Discussion (Argument)
In The Orphan Master’s Son, Adam Johnson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning fictional novel, it
has incorporated imaginable scenes of inhumanity, well-informed characters, and a fascinating
plot-twisting, as well as a clear depiction of the terrifying North Korea society (Galef 154). Some
of the scenes are considered challenging to believe, but the author has opened a scaring and
frightening window into the lives of the Kingdom of North Korea, as shown in the novel (Germane
105). Ideally, Johnson introduces the nature of the Kingdom of North Korea by creating an orphan
protagonist, who finds himself in the regime era under the Kim Jong-Un in the quest to find his
identity and dismayed over the human potential to corrupt his natural goodness, as well as the
primacy of feeling lost in the world of cruelty and inhumanity (Johnson 100).
As stated by intellectuals, “Sometimes in a country full of lies and deceit, its only fiction
that tells the truth. For years, North Korea has been a nation exhibiting the totalitarianism system
of government that is dictatorial and centralized and exercises an extreme degree of control over
the public and private life. In addition, in the novel, the author has marked the regime era under
Kim Jong-Un, which is a highly secretive and opaqueness regime, robust state-economy, and self-
imposed isolation from South Korea and the rest of the world (Allen 61). With that said, this
