Law enforcement is changing rapidly as new forms of crime, advanced technology, and
the evolving relationship between law enforcement and the community continue to take shape.
New tools and new technology that goes beyond solely law enforcement and community
engagement are needed to help the law enforcement agencies combat the rapid shift in police
role (Bigo, 2017). Moreover, there is a myriad of challenges that are projected to impact that
policing arena in the future. These future challenges have begun taking shape and require
strategic change both by law enforcement officers and law enforcement agencies to better
prepare to deal with these challenges. In other words, the success at these changes in the policing
dynamics will require a shift in the culture of law enforcement from the traditional policing
strategies to a more dynamic and advancement strategy that integrates these changes.
Law enforcement today is facing a rapidly shifting landscape with challenges confronting
the agency in every front. However, these challenges are projected to become more dynamic in
the near future. Some of the future challenges confronting law enforcement including but not
limited to data-focused law enforcement, emergency response technology, dealing with virtual
and digital evidence, officer trauma, and civil unrest (Bigo, 2017). Although some of these
challenges are being experienced currently, they continue to pose a serious threat to the law
enforcement arena in the near future. Civil unrest is a challenge that is being experienced and
will continue to pose more challenges to law enforcement going into the future. There is no
secret that globalization and civil unrest are at the forefront of current and future events that
confront policing. Protest and riots are commonplace throughout the world. When the police are
confronted with these issues, they are ill-prepared to effectively handle such large scale
disturbance. This is because many of the civil unrest is orchestrated by well-equipped
professional organizers. Moreover, handling digital evidence will be a major challenge going
