The post interprets Cullen’s poem correctly, that eventually, everything on earth ends, including
love. The first stanza describes how the love starts happily with a warm heart, and ultimately, it
grows quiet and still. This is a true reflection of how love feels so good at first, but with time, the
feeling fades away. This happens either through breakups or when a person dies. Cullen also
provides two more examples of other elements of life that eventually end and fade away; a
person’s beauty and brain. These, according to Cullen, do not last forever. Regardless of how
stunningly beautiful a person is, it fades away ultimately as they age.
Similarly, with time, the brain, no matter how sharp it is, slows down and dies with time.
I agree with the post that the message of the poem should be a call to action since we are not in
this world to last forever. Therefore, people should use the limited time they have to do
something meaningful for the next generation. The purpose of the poem is to remind everyone
that they should not fancy so much the earthly things, for they will pass for death is inevitable.
