JOHNSON’S NURSING DIAGNOSTIC AND TREATMENT PROCESS 2
The Johnson’s behavioral system model has the nursing goal of maintaining, restoring
and attaining stability and balance in the behavioral system of the client and aids the client to
attain a maximum level of functioning and balance (Smith & Parker, 2014). These goals are
achieved through the application of the Johnson’s nursing diagnostic and treatment process. I
think that the process allows the nurse to meet the standard of care practice for the nursing
process. Through the Johnson’s behavioral system model and the subsequent Johnson’s nursing
diagnostic and treatment process, the nurses are able to start nursing process by gathering
information to assess the prevailing behavioral patterns of the patient. The model helps nurses to
assess the information that is related to the function and structure of its seven behavioral
subsystems and the environmental elements influencing the patient’s behavioral subsystems
(Smith & Parker, 2014). After the problem has been confirmed, the Johnson’s model enables the
nurse to enter in the planning stage, where the problem is diagnostically classified. The nurse can
make deductions linked to the interaction and integration of the client’s subsystems and
collaborate with the patient and his/her family to set goals and plans for treatment.
The Johnson’s model then helps the nurse start the treatment with an aim of restoring or
maintaining the behavioral system stability and balance and help the patient to achieve optimum
functioning and balance level. Finally, the Johnson’s nursing diagnostic and treatment process
enables the nurse evaluates whether the goal of behavioral system stability and balance was
attained. Therefore, it can be said that this process meet the standard of care practice
requirements for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, as it focuses on the
individual as a whole, and also on the multifaceted interrelationships among its integral parts
(Smith & Parker, 2014). More so, it enables nurses to comprehend the goal and mission as a vital
part of the health-care team.
