EFFECTS OF POLLUTION IN TROPICAL FOREST
Effects of Pollution in Tropical Forest
Introduction
According to statistics taken by (FAO 2000), the world's forest-covered approximately 3869
million hectares, which was about 30% of the world's land area. Over the years the earth has
experienced a drastic reduction of the forest cover. The reason is drawn from several phenomena
that have continued to affect the forests either directly or indirectly. The most critical factor of
pollution to forests is anthropological factors. It refers to the human activities on earth that have
continued to have severe effects on the environment, which has a direct impact on the forest.
Tropical forests have immense importance on the surface of the earth. It constitutes the most
diverse and complex biomes that are present on the earth's surface. Tropical forests have both
ecological importance and economic importance.
Most importantly, tropical forests support approximately 50% of other species that it offers habitat
to. It also plays a vital role in the global carbon and energy cycles. Tropical forests act as the main
determinants of the quality of air that circulates. They trap harmful air using their leaves to use it
to manufacture their food through the process of photosynthesis and release fresh oxygen gas.
Impact of industrialization on tropical forests
The stability of biodiversity on the forest ecosystem depends on the conditions that are within the
system. The industrialization has become one of the biggest causes of pollution in tropical forests.
The industrialization has led to the emission of toxic gases into the atmosphere. Air pollution on
forests has been dated since the medieval period during the industrial revolution. For more than a
century, there has been the identification of acid precipitation together with other forms of
localized air pollution that has dramatically endangered the tropical forest ecosystem (Impact of
