Progressive Discipline
Progressive Discipline is a method that employers use to discipline employees when they
have gone against the company's wishes. It is a system that is predefined that employers can use
to deal with misconduct in the workplace. In cases of negligence of duties and unproductiveness,
these steps offer a way to ensure that the employee is reprimanded for their actions. The main
aim of progressive Discipline is making sure that the employee understands that there is a way to
reform. The more an employee seems to disregard what is expected of them the more severe the
punishments become. These help employers who might not know how to discipline the workers.
The steps that the progressive Discipline takes are as follows; step one is the verbal
warning or reprimand. This involves a verbal warning from the management to the employee
identifying the areas they are not performing. This stage usually the leader tries to understands
the employee and guide him to adhere to rules and regulations. The second step, written warning,
which comes in the form of mail either handwritten or electronic speculating the issues that the
employers with the employee to address and change. This only escalates when the employee did
not adore to the verbal warning. The third step is the suspension and improvement plan. After the
written and verbal warming the employer will be suspended from work for a speculated amount
of time, some employers can implement an improvement plan like probation. The fourth and last
step is termination, when the employees do not adhere to the warning the employer will be
forced to terminate their employment (Muller, 2013).
Progressive Discipline ensures that the employee is given time to redeem him/herself
before the termination, where duties have been fully neglected, or misconduct is rampant. It a
guide to disciplinary action at the workplace any employer can use, and it fosters due diligence.
