The 1950’s, Golden Decade in American History
The 1950s post-war has left American history with an idyllic lustre image. The TV
series that depicts the events of the 1950s, such as "Father knows best," gives current viewers
an impression of a perfect and blissful family. Whereas the individuals born after the Second
World War are still yearning their childhood encounters of the 1950s since to them, it was a
period of grace like no other. President Dwight Eisenhower, also nicknamed Ike, was
regarded as the war hero as he served during several years of war. Dwight took center stage
between two major American political parties, the Republicans and the Democrats
(Hendricks 5). Dwight used a move termed as Modern Republicanism, which prevented
preservationist Republicans from amending major New Deal projects like Social security yet
stalling the Democratic Party from further expanding the programs. By doing so, no
significant reforms were initiated during an era many people would depict as politically dead.
It could be after the Korean War and WWII Americans were desperately in need of freedom
and peace from war fuss.
The American economy was doing so well and this success helped in forming a
euphoric retrospective nature of the 1950s (Ppt. 17, Slide 6). The revamping European

Depression continued to exist through to the 1950s. For the first time, housing units were
accessible to several loft tenants. Subsequently, the number of inhabitants in the countryside
increased. And the youths had their own music genre the rock and roll for entertainment with
already parental guidance marked on them (Ppt. 14, slide 9).
It was a blissful period, but only when measured by materials possession and
entertainment that others could afford, such as music, cars, clothes, and housing. Otherwise,

the things that happened were unpleasant (Cordeiro and Neri 35). There are cases like the
polio outbreak that sent the states to a lockdown. Individuals born after the 1995 pandemic
cannot envision how devastating it was as kids were locked in houses, theatres shut down,
and public swimming pools were inaccessible until an immunization was culminated
(Hendricks 6). The hospitals were filled with metallic lungs while the affected person kept on
breathing through the assist of throbbing machines.
Racial segregation was at its pick back in the '50s as compared to today. Racism was
the norm across states, and devastatingly it was taken for granted even in the dynamic S.
California. Latin Americans, Black folks, and Asians were segregated to a level that they had
their zones to stay at and were kept off whites' territories (Ppt. 17, Slide 4). Several
restaurants and neighborhoods were a no-go zone (Ppt. 14, slide 19). In the city of L.A, black
folks were permitted access to public plunge on Thursdays only also referred to as
international day, and the white people were guaranteed the pool will be purged and wholly
scoured. To get the feeling of what was happening to the minority groups, be it bad or good,
one had to dwell amongst them since the media turned their back on the segregated group.
Corruption also spread across the New York police division. The situation was
rampant that the state government issued an order for the department to be closed to an extent
