Marxist Analysis of Racism
The continuation of racism in todays world can be explained by two aspects of the
capitalist mode of production: imperialism and racisms contribution to profitability. Racism was
employed as a tactic by state elites from the 17th-century colonization of Virginia to Victorian
Britain and beyond to limit class struggles conducted by oppressed communities to make the
system secure for wealth creation (Virdee 1) by oppressing a particular minority group, based on
their skin color, those of the superior race had an advantage that allowed them access to the
means of production. Even though the oppressed population worked for many hours, the ruling
class accumulated the wealth they created. While the initial motivation could have been the
ruling class policy to extend their dominion over the minority population, racist policies and
legislature were put in place and maintained because the same ruling class made wealth and
profited considerably because of it. Class is more than just another ideology that justifies
oppression; it refers to exploitative relationships between people mediated by their connections
to the means of production (Giménez 83). However, Marxism provides the analytical tools
needed to conceptualize and enhance societys perception of class, gender, and race. Suppose the
study of class, gender, and race achieves more than the endless documentation of differences in
their relative prominence and combined consequences in particular circumstances and
experiences. In that case, Marxism is theoretically and politically required (Giménez 83). While
