Number of Physicians and Nurse Practitioners
According to the case study, the Accountable Care Organization’s (AOC) patients will
each average 6 office visits per year, with a total of 300,000 visits per year for the entire patient
population of 50,000 patients. Physicians, on the other hand, total 3,000 visits each per year, with
nurses totaling 2,000 visits each per year. Therefore, the number of nurses and physicians can be
calculated as;
Number of nurses = total patient visits/nurse visits per year
= 300,000 / 2,000
Number of nurses = 150
Number of physicians = total patient visits/physician visits per year
= 300,000 / 3,000
Number of physicians = 100
There is, therefore a total of 100 physicians and 150 nurses that are part of the ACO
workforce. This number would be the most suitable to comfortably handle the total number of
projected visits per year while ensuring optimal efficiency and cost savings.
Reimbursement Method
The reimbursement method comprises of two options for the ACO. A base yearly salary
