The study will be conducted in 24 elementary schools in Buncombe County, North
Carolina, which are expected to hold a total of 2,400 students in grades one to three. Most of the
student participants in the study are expected to be from low income and middle-income earning
backgrounds (Taylor, 2016). Notably, Buncombe county is characterized by highly unequal
income distribution, considering that 13.2 percent are low-income earners, and approximately 50
percent are middle-income earners. The study shows that students with financially stable
backgrounds in Buncombe schools are approximately 36.8 percent. Furthermore, the median
household income in Buncombe county is currently around $53,980, whereby it has an average
annual growth of 7.87 percent (DATA USA, 2020). The economic background classification will
be considered, in this case, to promote understanding of the factors that hinder parental
involvement in student’s academic development. The study will directly involve teachers,
students, and parents in determining the impact of parental involvement in the education
development of children. Teachers will be involved in the study to promote understanding of
their influence on parental involvement in children’s academic development. The consideration
of teacher and parent population will promote understanding of various issues of parental
involvement like parent-teacher collaboration and parental engagement in the academic
development of their children. The knowledge of the culture, education statistics, and ethnic
distribution in Buncombe county will promote a better understanding of the impact of parental
involvement in the academic development of young children. Important consideration made, in
this case, is the ethnic population distribution in Buncombe County, whereby 83.3 percent are
White Americans, 6.21 are African Americans, and 6.69 percent are Hispanic Americans.
