Response One- Joan
Hello Joan, I agree with you that people’s behavior results from what they learn from others.
Different learning theories such as the social learning theory (SLT), explain that human behavior
enhances through motivation, outcome expectations, observational learning, readiness to learn, self-
concept, and self-efficacy (Nies & McEwen, 2018). Based on the discussion, children can learn
healthy eating from others using the SLT model. For instance, an obese child can learn which healthy
eating habits the teacher demonstrates if they are keenly observative. That is because human beings
are easy to understand through observing and mimicking those behaviors (Bandura & Hall, 2018). As
you said, the SLT model uses motivation through videos and films to teach children as they are
fascinating to watch. Indeed, human beings’ motivation is vital in children’s learning. To grasp, one
needs to reward them with intrinsic and extrinsic rewards like praises, incentives, vouchers, and a
small token to motivate them to learn healthy behaviors.
Response Two Renee
Hello Renee, I agree with your sentiment that social learning theory and the humanistic theory
are learning theories where people learn through observations of others and focus on them to help
them evolve their possibilities in a self-governed way (Gilham, Austen, Wei, & Kutcher, 2018). For
instance, adolescents are given the ability to self-explore and self-acceptance, which helps them learn
from their peers (Gilham, Austen, Wei, & Kutcher, 2018). Based on your example, many teenagers
suffer from mental health issues. Therefore, to help them learn the best behavior to avoid mental
health, visual information such as power points, videos, and handouts regarding mental health
awareness such as depression, anxiety, and panic disorders would be helpful. That will help them
know how to cope with those feelings properly. As you said, with such information, it would be easy
for them to discuss with their peers how some behaviors can affect their lives. In addition, human
beings learn many of their behaviors through watching and practicing.
