Team Leadership: Leadership and Decision Making
Individuals from a part of a team, be it in the hospital, at work, school, business, or
government. People come together to make work easier and finish activities. Each team has a
leader, and an effective leader must understand how leadership works when leading his team.
Allahar (2019) suggests that a team is only as good as its leader. Therefore, the leadership model
is where the leader’s function is to take charge of a team. In a case study, a team of five
engineers was assigned to Jamal. However, after assessing the team, he realized that the team
was having problems getting the job done and deteriorating intrateam relationships. This
discussion will explain how Jamal can utilize Hill’s model of team leadership approach to solve
conflict among his team and ensure team effectiveness.
The Team Leadership Approach and How It Impacts the Decision-Making Process.
The team leadership strategy emphasizes that leadership determines whether a team
succeeds or fails. Among the theories studied in class, team leadership theory is most applicable
and relevant. This strategy is similar to a leader’s roadmap that permits team monitoring and
assessment. Leaders then identify the best way to address the team’s worries. Notably, leaders
have to choose whether to monitor or take corrective actions to address the team’s issues.
Suppose a leader decides that corrective action is required, then the model is like a general
guideline for the leader as she begins a journey to rectify the issues, whether they are external or
internal to the group (Northhouse, 2018). The leader uses the team leadership model to identify
several solutions but at the same time recognize the capabilities and resources available.
According to Northouse, a team consists of interdependent members with a common goal and
whose activities must be in sync to achieve the goals. Based on this definition, team leadership
capacity is applicable whenever individuals are working towards the same goal.
