What is sociology?
Zack lamb defines sociology as a scientific study of people and the social behavior of a
given group in a given society in a systematic way.
How does Zack lamb break down the definitions?
First, the sociologist studies the behaviors of a given group and learn how they relate with
one another. The sociologists monitor how a given society react to situations affecting their area.
For example in Arab spring, they could riot in the street so the sociologist took their time to
found out why the people decided to riot. Secondly, the sociologist studied the mode of
communication. How the society communicated to plan the riots. If the society used Facebook or
tweeter to pass a message. Here, the sociologist was interested in technology in that society. The
sociologist looked at where the group of people planned to hold their meeting. Then the
sociologist was interested in how the society used to power, who was in power and how equal
was the power in that society
Why is sociology a science?
Sociology is a science because the sociologist used scientific methods which were the use
of questioners, surveys, interviews, they involved participants from the society and observation.
This was the methods they used to collect data.
What is the meaning of the term to see in general in particular?
To see in general in particular is what exactly the sociology wanted to found out in
specific. The sociologist could study behaviors of people in a given society in broad.
What is a global perspective?
According to Zack lamb video, a global perspective is the general benefits of the sociological
perspective, which enable us to identify personal constraints of individual in particular.
