FAMILY ASSESSMENT PART II

Family Health Assessment Part II
Health can be seen as being free from sicknesses and infirmities. This definition is not
complete without mentioning and emphasizing the individual mental, emotional and physical
wellbeing. The resources and the opportunities an individual possesses are also determinants of
healthy living. The health of individuals ranges from another as a result of environment or
residential areas. A lot of factors which could be education, social-economic and food can
contribute to one's health. This is made known by Healthy people (2020); ''social determinants of
health (SDOH) are conditions in the environment. Which people are, born, learn, live, play,
worship, work and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning and quality of life outcomes
and risks''. Paragraph 1 of Healthy People (2020, 2019), it was stated that there are just five
essential areas of determinants. Which are education, economic stability, social and economic
context, health and healthcare, neighbourhood and environment?
It can also be said that every family struggles and battles with one or more SDOH.
Economic stability and social and community contexts are what Walker faced.
The Walker's family relocated from Hawaii down to Texas some years ago, and they had
to deal with the SDOH of economic stability. This immigration was due to Mr Walker's natural of
the job when he retired from the Navy; he works at a shipyard. Quite unfortunate, tell new
environment doesn't possess a shipyard. This factor led to Mr Walker's unemployment due to this
regrettable situation and ultimately affected all the members of the family. That event also made
Mrs Walker be the only one that fends for the family; this becomes stressful and made her stranded
in a job she's not happy with it. It made her underemployed, which in turn reduces the self-worth
of our Walker since he cannot boast of himself as being the one providing for his family. Lack of
funds also incapacitated everyone also affects their daughter as she's unable to embark on such
projects. The family has fallen apart due to stress, insecurity, lack of funds and inadequate rest.
Mrs Walker began to have a sense of entitlement that she ought to be able to enjoy herself because
he works hard to earn. In turn, Mr Walker should buckle down and get something doing. These
factors have caused a series of misunderstanding and argument between the couple. Therefore, Mr
Walker started saving up to fund the bills at home.
Community contexts also contribute to Walker's struggle; their social connection is not that
strong; families are also drifting apart. The family is unable to meet new people in the community
since Mrs Walker walks from home, and Mr Walker is unemployed. Their daughter now has low
self-esteem, he has also become so shy though she made some good friends in school. She also
wishes that her grandmother was close so she could visit her. This issue increases her struggle
since she has no family so close. An article from the New Department of Health, 2019, para.1)
discloses that The Walkers do not have a good sense of bonding, interpersonal relationship and
trust in the community, and they are not recognized. The Walker's feel rejected, unloved and
isolated, and this, in turn, affects their emotional health.
One of the tools which can be used to scrutinize the physical, mental and emotional health of an
individual is Screening Tools. These tools are developed for every age group and different stages
in life.
