Even though there is a constant increase in the utilization of telemedicine, its legal and

ethical issues associated to it has been discussed to a minimum in the professional practice of

medicine. There is a series of applications in telemedicine. These applications can be utilized in

obtaining professional advice and can also be applied in many medical sectors e.g. in

dermatology, cardiology, patient information and patient home monitoring.

In line with the conventional medical care, the primary principles in telemedicine are

non-maleficence, confidentiality and consent (Laxman & Dhillon, 2015). Inefficient utilization

of telemedicine could lead to unexpected health and legal issues. These ethical issues include

confidentiality, data security, data transmission, patient privacy etc.

In telemedicine, confidentiality could be a challenge. Due to the fact that clients trust

their caregivers with private information, medical practitioners should be sensible enough to

ensure that information confidentiality is maintained (Valdez & Veinot). The non-maleficence

ideology stresses on expert responsibility. This is because the legal confidentiality aspect majors

on the associations among people who take part in care delivery instead of the system employed.

Fast execution of telemedicine, put together with main social transformation and

mobility, implies a continuous discussion is required across the global boundaries by

professional agencies and governments. Application of telemedicine in patient care depends on

information transmission (Kramer & Mishkind, 2015). This implies that information

transmission and secure networks are extremely important to maintaining a high level of

confidentiality and privacy.

There should be a high maintenance of patient privacy when making use of telehealth

consultations as highly as possible (Aloisi, 2015). Even though privacy it is an understandable

fact that privacy has a higher chance of being exposed the moment this kind of technology is
