AGE RELATED CHANGES 2
1. What do you think are the two most prevalent age-related changes that affect
the lifestyle of the elderly?
Different individuals have distinct perception concerning old age. Nevertheless, common
transformations related with aging exists and appears to affect many elderly patients in different
levels. The most common transformation related to age in the cardiovascular system is the
process where the arteries and blood vessels stiffen, and as a result, the heart struggles to perform
its blood pumping role (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2015). Muscles of the heart change so that the
pumping activity due to increased burden. As a result, hypertension or cardiovascular difficulties
arise.
The second age related change which is the normal aging. This where the processes
which are degenerative overtake processes which are regenerative (Ignatavicius & Workman,
2015). Elderly people begin experiencing these kinds of changes at the beginning of their 40s
and go on gradually. Individuals start to wear glasses, develop difficulty in hearing and develop
difficulties in weight loss.
2. How would you help an elderly patient adjust to the two changes you
identified?
Elderly people experiencing cardiovascular problems due to old age can be helped overcome
this situation (Kassebaum et al., 2016). I would suggest regular physical exercise e.g. walking,
and swimming. Such activities help in regulating good weight and minimizing chances of
diseases associated with the heart. Eating healthy diet, avoiding stress and smoking are also
preventive measures against these diseases.
Despite the fact that normal aging cannot be avoided, changes associated with normal aging
e.g. reduced eye vision, hearing difficulties and problems in weight loss can be controlled
