Abstract
Cisco Systems, headquartered in San Jose California, one of the worldwide leaders in
networking for the internet filed a lawsuit against a Chinese multinational technology company,
Huawei Technologies and its all U.S. subsidiaries Huawei America and FutureWei
Technologies. In the lawsuit, Cisco accused Huawei of stealing the intellectual property by
copying its Internet Operating System (IOS) software and its copyrighted user manuals. The
Cisco decided that a lawsuit was necessary to settle this issue and as a part of settlement Huawei
admitted that a small portion of its router software apparently was copied from Cisco, but it was
removed globally. Being one of the top multinational company, Huawei needs to take
international patent and copyright lawsuit in a serious manner so that the competitors also know
the value of patent and copyright. Before launching or releasing new product to the market, the
Huawei needs to establish an intellectual property department to ensure and manage international
dispute and litigation, to pay attention to its own patent and to protect intellectual property. With
the strong managing over the patent and intellectual property lawsuit, a company can survive in
any kind of competitive environment.
