In counselling, ethical and legal issues play a critical role in evaluation of different cases.
The society is culturally diverse and there is a need for counselors to embrace such diversity. For
instance, Arab American Muslim women face different challenges whenever they seek
counseling services. minority groups in America tend to underutilize mental health services. The
Arab Americans form part of this group. There are Muslim women who have undergone trauma
and they need counselling services. However, culture plays a critical role in their cases and
religion is a factor to consider. The Islamic beliefs should be considered when engaging this type
of clients. Various CBT interventions are effective for these clients and effective strategies have
to be incorporated in the process.
Muslim women who have had traumatic experiences in the American society require the
extended services of counselling. The information that is required from these people relates to
the nature of their cultural and religious beliefs and how they affect the delivery of these
services. having information about their beliefs will be critical in understanding and developing
interventions that can be effective in handling their cases in the society.
The Arab American Muslim women find the counselling services to be problematic and
this due to their cultural and religious beliefs. The fear of stigma and shame; and attitudes
towards interpersonal openness and secrecy are some of the factors that hinder the delivery of
counselling services to this group of people. Muslim women don’t like opening up to others
about their problems. This attitude towards reveling personal information creates problems (Enns
& Williams, 2012).
Counselling services are available and there are different counsellors who have
specialized in different fields. These are experts who understand cultural diversity and they
