How did this war help develop an American identity?
Americans got a very distinctive identity after the War of 1812 as the war was well known in the
entire world and people got to know about struggle for rights in United States which was not
very well known before. This war was so much hyped up that many people even named at as the
“Second War of Independence of America”. Treaty of Ghent which was a treaty among
American and British government came to effect after the 1812 war but, this change didn’t made
a visible impact on the boundaries and territories of United States and Canada. This war created
an essence of proud and bravery among Americans and they felt proud of their struggle even
though it wasn’t much as compared to the War of Independence. Formal relations between both
nations came to good terms after this treaty of Ghent and Americans felt more independent than
ever before. “This treaty of Ghent promised United States all those states and territories that had
been conquered previously and a separate state of Canada with a divided boundary that could
ensure two independent states with their own territories and boundaries”(Shultz, 2016). “Era of
Good Feelings” started soon after the end of 1812 War to celebrate the success of war. He played
his part in building the trust among people and boosts the national feelings of people by doing
tours around the country to support its people and make sure they feel same in this moment of
Joy. After the War of 1812 America became a true place for its citizens to spend rest of their life
with independence and proper rights and make sure Americans can prosper and life a happy life
here.
