Introduction
Nike Inc. is an American Global Company that involves itself with design, development,
manufacturing, as well as global marketing and sales of apparel, footwear, services, equipment,
and accessories. Nike has its headquarters at Beaverton, Oregon, Portland Metropolitan in the
U.S. the company employs over 44,000 persons across the world and is a world leader in sports
equipment production and the largest athletic apparel and shoes supplier worldwide. Today, the
company is valued at U.S$34.792 Million. The company’s largest market is the United States
where its two brands, Nike and Jordan Brand remain the most popular. Nike is facing stiff
competition and needs to expand its market especially now that COVID 19 has affected
consumer spending.
Problem Statement and Decision Alternatives
Over the past, Nike has enjoyed steady consistent profitability as a result of its superior
sportswear and a good relationship with its suppliers, as well as distributors. However,
competition is stiff in the sportswear and apparel industry with companies like Adidas
threatening to overtake Nike. Adidas is slowly but steadily taken away Nikes Market share
specifically the growing Chinese market, as well as the North American market. In the recent
past, Adidas has undergone massive reappearance in the North American Market with its
revenues growing year after year at the cost of Nike’s drastically slowing growth in the region.
Nike boats of two of the famous sports brands in the U.S including Nike and its Jordan brand. On
the other hand, recent news shows that Adidas has bypassed Nike’s Jordan Brand as America’s
second most popular sports brand. Sketchers U.S.A Inc. is yet another company giving Nike a
hard time in the sportswear and apparel industry. Let alone competition, the current COVID 19
