Discussion Question 1- Summary and Critical Thinking
I will frame my discussion around the leadership component of business because the
skills of leadership learned in class have greatly helped me in my professional life. Students
who attended the leadership course developed critical thinking skills; they are now able to
think critically about obstacles to change as well as understanding the change process. The
students also gained decision-making skills that would enable them to understand and make
wise and excellent decisions. Students enrolled in a leadership course at the college have also
been able to understand how the current technologies can be utilized effectively in
professional environments. They are also able to apply leadership theories to create an
effective team environment in the places of work (Dugan, 2017).
It is easy for me to highlight the practises of leadership that have helped me
professionally. Leadership is not all about being authoritative, controlling others, making
decisions alone, having answers to all problems, and taking credit for every successful
practice done within the organization. A good leader must possess creative and critical
thinking skills. Critical thinking is the desire to seek, fondness to meditate, readiness to
consider, slowness to assert, and ability to think rationally while understanding the logical
connection between ideas.
Any leader must maintain a cohesive relationship with all the employees and
organization’s stakeholders. In my place of work, I effectively applied my leadership skills to
mobilize all the sales and marketing department staff on how to improve their sales and
marketing skills and it worked marvellously as vindicated by improved sales. “Leadership is
a skill that can be learned. Leadership skills can be learned by taking leadership roles, reading
autobiographies of great leaders, self-reflection, and also through participating in leadership
related workshops. Self-competence, discipline, and determination are essential for ethical
