CLOUD COMPUTING 2
Cloud computing
This is the process of delivering on-demand services of computing especially for
storage of data over the internet without direct active management by the user on a pay as
you go basis. Companies do not have to own their computing infrastructure but they can
instead rent access for the services from the application to the storage from the service
provider of cloud computing. I have a strong belief that cloud computing can mitigate the
cost of computing as well as reducing enhancing green computing. This is because by use of
cloud computing companies can avoid upfront costs and other costs associated with the
complexity of owning and maintaining their infrastructures of IT (Ferraz et al., 2018).
The firms will only be entitled to pay for what they use when they use it. The firms
will not be entitled to buy servers or keep on updating their operating systems. The providers
of these services in turn enjoy the benefits of large economics of scale because they can
deliver similar services to a wide customer base. Cloud computing enhances green computing
because there will be no more disposing of hardware or software when it is out of date as all
these are left to the supplier to handle. There will be no environmental hazards as a result of
the unnecessary disposal of out-dated hardware to the environment (Schniederjans & Hales,
2016).
If the company has an application that has big peaks in usages for instance that is used
only at/ particular times of the week or year, it would be cheaper and easier to host it in the
cloud rather than using dedicated software or hardware laying idle in the office over time.
This will cut down on the storage and maintenance costs involved. Costs of employing
internal staff for IT will be cut down and the company moves from CapEx to Opex spending
that is more useful and economical as it relieves the company the burden of capital budgets
such as the acquisition of infrastructure that are not environmental friendly when out of date.
