What are the main components of Kirkpatrick's training evaluation model?
The main components of Kirkpatrick's training evaluation model are:
Reaction- This level entirely focuses on the trainee's feelings towards the training, did
they find it valuable? Was the instructor good? Was the material good presented well?
Was the venue good? According to Kirkpatrick, the trainers must determine the attitudes,
knowledge, and skills that are required to bring about the desired behavior. They must
also present the program in a way that the participants will not only learn but also react
favorably to the program.
Determine the success of this stage, post-training questionnaires is used to gather
information and also to watch the trainee's body language.
Learning- Before training, it's important to have a set of objectives that one wishes to
attain at the end of the training, which makes it easier to evaluate the learners' progress in
the knowledge attained. This could also include skills and attitudes.
Behavior- This involves an evaluation of the trainee's behavior based on the training they
have received. It should be noted that behavior can only change if there are favorable
conditions and that it's not wise to make conclusions on this early one since the change
could be gradual.
Results- This analyzes the final outcome of the training to see whether they are good for
business or the employees. It's challenging in the sense of identifying the outcomes or
benefits that are very closely linked with the training, thus making it hard to come up
with an effective way to measure the outcome. However, this may not be applicable in all
