1. Explain how the above company achieved the concept of ‘Total Retail Experience’.
The total retail experience of the company revolves on two types of elements that are:
- Controllable elements which are No. of Sales People, Various Displays, Prices, Brand Names,
Mobile App or Web Page, Accurate product and Pricing Information, Inventory on Hand
- Uncontrollable elements which are Adequacy of Parking, Speed of Customer’s Internet, All
kinds of taxes, Traffic, Surrounding areas of Retailing etc.
The company controlled the elements as they tried were trying to control the physical distribution
of the stock accuracy of the company. Also a food stock management system which helped them
receive information about the how things are and helped them react quickly to the changing needs
of the customer. They even made their product range huge and available to all at the same time
which kept uniformity as they were a huge chain and things have to be standardized. The company
also kept the prices at a minimum level which made it affordable. They even various products from
time to time to keep their customers with them and not go to the competitors. They tried to ensure
that the products they received from the supplier were the best and no compromise was made in
the quality of products.
The uncontrollable elements which affected them would be traffic which would delay the delivery of
goods to different branches from time to time. Also the adequacy of parking in their stores which
would affect as they are one of the world’s largest retail chains, which will be attracting a lot of
people all over the time. As being around for more than 100 years they have seen that the taxing
system has made quite a few changes which would affect the company but they can’t do anything
about that since it is done by the government.
2. Analyze the above case study to apply a range of techniques and practices associated with
retail operations implemented by the retail company.
To make the company reach to be ranked in one of the largest chain retailer of the world the
company has done a lot of work, they have managed their physical distribution extremely well with
the help of the food stock management (FSM) to maintain their stock accuracy which made their
operations efficient and smooth. The goal of the company was to provide their customers with the
highest quality and give great value to their products along with customer satisfaction as they knew
that was the key to become the biggest in the world. They made sure that the taste remains same
across all the retail outlets of the chain with the help of standardization of good from one supplier
and not many. They even maintained good relationships with their suppliers and also involved them
in the process of innovating and producing new goods for their customers like they introduced the
frozen, ambient and fresh goods. The company made major changes in their organizations; they
