The article titled Oppression was about the misuse of the word oppression in society.
Oppression may be defined as the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or
unjust manner. an act or instance of oppressing or subjecting to cruel or unjust impositions or
restraints. The article took the stance that the word oppression was mostly claimed by feminism
to describe what women go through. But ever since then the word has been misused. Men are
now calcimining that they too are oppressed. An example that the article gave was the fact that
they often have to hide their emotions, they are told not to cry and that they should me masculine
and tough at all times. Men claiming the word oppression makes it lose it value or meaning. It
shows that oppression is related to any and all human experiences where people are limited to
suffering no matter the cause, consequence or degree. Important to note that oppressed people
are often expected to act as if everything is okay and the minute, they rebel they are seen as mean
and bitter. A really good example of oppression of women that the article gave was the concept
of rape and how people often blame women for being raped. As if the way one dresses, walks,
talks or acts should be subjected to such punishment.
