Empathetic listening is a structured listening and questioning technique that allows
one to enhance and develop relationships with a stronger understanding of what is being
passed both emotionally and intellectually. In my place of work, there is a time my boss used
empathetic listening with me when discussing with him the reasons I had given leave to one
of his most efficient employees during a busy week. This made me feel like an important and
respected figure in the organization. It is difficult to practice empathetic listening because it is
often required when the speaker is upset by something or angry with certain behaviors.
Habit 6: Synergize
1. Identify a situation in which you desire greater teamwork and synergy. What
conditions would need to exist to support synergy? What can you do to create
those conditions?"
Synergy and teamwork are required in times of war for instance the war against
terrorists requires everyone to be on their alerts in case of suspicious people spotted around.
Without teamwork, the terrorist can destroy everyone together with their resources. To
support synergy some conditions must exist amongst the team members. First, there must be
respect amongst the members as well as self-respect for each member. Secondly, the team
members must be able to communicate openly and transparently with each other.
