Chapter Discussion # 1
Argue this video, "Is it Sport? Is it Dance? Is it Art?" In 1-2 paragraphs!
Answer
Through the video by Marco and Paulo Lorador in the Saltimbanco, Cirque du soleil
"Hand to Hand". I considered that the show was dance. First, It had a big colorful round of
stage, even through the show that it had only body movements, not part of art and sport.
Start four cavaliers stood around the glass table on the center of stage. then two men who
wore green coverall and pair of green shoes. then two men jumped up the glass table
and engaged in a hand-to-hand duo push their bodies to the limits of human strength. They
made every action that it was difficult. Behind the center of stage, It had a group of play. such
as the guy who played the guitar and the another woman who sang. The music sounded like
modern music that it was very passion. The background always changed color vivid, the light
was blue and bright. Finally, the last one was dreamer who wore blue clothes. He made only
one difficult action, It looked very humorous that the audience smiled.
As in life, Dance is an art form that is displayed through the human body using the
medium of movement. Even in order to understand the true meaning of dance, We must first
understand dance as an art form. It's important, however, that people view art with an open
mind and provide time for themselves to react to the work in an intelligent manner.

So You Think You Can Dance 2! Watch tonight's episode of So You Think You
Can Dance on Channel 11 and write a critique evaluating the dancers, styles of
dance, costumes, and guest artists on tonight's show! Be sure to be specific!
Answer
Tonight, I watched the dance sequence by the group of the girl and boy. The group of the
grils who wore the pink dresses and the group of the boys who wore the white shirts and the
gray vests. They danced the contemporary ballet, Sometimes the music was passion, but
sometimes it was soft. The dancers looked energy and serious. they jumped and whirled
around the on the center of the stage. Every action was very soft and beautiful. The dancers
who performed the movements must be highly trained and must have an outstanding
performance quality. the use of music was also used might be very different that was abstract.
contemporary ballet choreographers also used more freedom of movement in the torso,
upper body and arms, giving the movements a more modern dance flavor. It was different
the classical ballet. So the audience would quickly be able to recognize if the ballet they were
viewing were a classical or contemporary ballet, simply by looking at the costumes, scenery,
staging, music and how the dancers were used on stage.
Chapter Discussion # 4 Post your one to two paragraph response in the
Assignments area to any of the discussion questions as presented in Chapter 4 on
page 49 of your text.
Answer
I think that keeping an open mind when viewing dance is important. Because dancing is
a form of art a form of expressing oneself on the dance floor either by themselves or with a
partner. there is no such an open mind, a lot of dance will lose their cultural and their
characteristics. For example, If a person makes the decision to be receptive to the material
put before him or her, then the viewing experience has the potential to be very fulfilling. Many
people have gotten used to seeing dance in the flashy, quick editing style of current music
videos and television shows. But viewing live dances performed in a dance concert setting
requires more intellectual participation from viewers. Obviously, some dances will require the
audience to think more than others will. Of course, it's easier for the audience member to be
an active participant if the choreography presented and the dancers performing the
movements are interesting and exciting to watch. Therefore, from the beginning of the
creative process to the final performance, the choreographers, dancers and audiences all
have roles to play. Most artists hope that the audience will respond to it in some way.
Now if you are viewing it, you always have to keep an open mind because you don't
exactly know what the dancer will do next. if you are dancing, you always have to keep an
open mind to whatever position, turn, whatever is requested of you. As a dancer, you can't go
into it with a closed mind. It's like painting a canvas using paint by numbers. It's too
predictable. I'm not sure about you but I like the unknown part of dancing, regardless if I'm
watching dancers or dancing myself. In the same way, As the audience must have respect for
the dancers.
