In this case study, the identified clients name is Katy, she is a 35-year-old female. Katy
has a husband named Lewis and they have two younger children together. Katy’s father lives on
the other side of the country. Katy is a rising professional within her job. The case study did not
include Katy’s race and it did not mention what type of career she was rising up in. Katy presents
with an addiction to prescription medications. She has a substance addiction in which case she
takes prescription medications known as Vicodin, which is an opioid (pain reliever) and soma
which is a muscle relaxant. Katy does not present signs of a process addiction.
Katie was in a car accident in her mid-twenties and she started taking pain medications
for lower back pain. In the beginning, she took her pain medication as prescribed by the doctor.
Sometimes she went to the doctor herself and was able to leave the doctor’s office with a
prescription for pain medication. Katy’s day to day life started becoming more complicated with
being a wife, a mother, having a rising career, and with the pressures of daily life. She started
remembering how the pain medications would make her feel, and they made her whole life feel
wonderful. She began to look for ways to feel better, to feel happy and started seeking out pain
medication from her friends, family, and coworkers. If Katy knew someone was going in to the
doctor she would seek out information to see if they received any pain medication. Katy’s pain
prescription abuse turned very fast to addiction when she realized she could get pain medication
on the internet. Her husband, Lewis started to notice that they were having financial problems
when she was buying the pain medication online, pain medication is extremely expensive when
purchased over the internet. When Katy’s husband discussed his worries with her, she claimed
she was just buying vitamins online. Lewis, her husband decided to talk to Katy’s parents. They
decided to come for a visit because they were concerned as well. Katy, Lewis, and Katy’s
parents all sat down and discussed their worries when Katy’s parents arrived. Katy did finally
