Silent suffering
[Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines]Depression is not as straightforward as
some people think. “At times it is very difficult to comprehend the discomfort of depression
because it seems unfathomable or unreasonable to to those who do not suffer from it.” By
Marcel Lebrun. Lebrun is stating here that people that do not suffer from depression do not
know what those with depression deal with every day (2007). It is a state of mental illness and a
mood disorder that causes significant impairment in daily life. People with depression feel a loss
of interest in activities affecting their social behavior and their feelings and thinking. Everyone
experiences negative feelings like being sad or unhappy from time to time and they are usually
overwhelming and painful, which is a normal reaction to when something upsets someone. But
as the time goes by the pain becomes less and eventually disappears. however, if these feelings
continue, they will affect the person, and this will result in depression. As described by Jared
Houdi “Depression is a mood disorder that is defined as losing interest in important parts of
life” (2019). Depression intervenes with their life every day – while they are at work, eating,
watching television or just going about their day. More people should be screened for
depression because it can affect any age group, it has diverse root causes and there are several
benefits from treatments once clinically diagnosed.
Depression does not only affect the one that is the victim of this illness but also the ones
surrounding them and that love them. The people around them might not want to interact with
them anymore when they are negative most of the time, they may also have lower empathy
levels for those who are depressed and not doing anything about it. This can lead to social
