Advertising influences healthy habits, because when you are promoting healthy foods or
healthy habits you are encouraging people to turn to that lifestyle, it helps with shaping a
person into more healthy habits.
2). How do the media shape our perception of what is “normal”?
Media shapes our perception of what is “normal” by making a behavior seem normal
even if it isn’t. Another way media does it is making the behavior trendy making you feel
left out when all the kids or famous people are doing it. Another thing they do is show it
all the time, to make it seem normal since you have seen it that much.
3). What does it mean to be an informed consumer?
An informed consumer is an individual that has leaned the facts and has recognized
advertising for what it is, a clever way to convince people to purchase products.
4). How has legislation helped limit the health risks of smoking?
The legislation has helped limit the health risk of smoking by limiting smoking in public
since second-hand smoke has been brought to people’s attention. Another thing
legislation has done is making a legal age of which someone can buy cigarettes, it used
to be open to teens now the age is 18, so kids are not led the wrong way.
5). Why is it in the government’s interest to promote health and safety?
It is the government’s interest to promote health and safety because it is easier to
prevent things rather than cure them. Teaching people not to smoke is a lot easier than
paying for all the medical issues they have in the future.

6). Which media sources do you think are the most reliable for information about health?
Explain your answers.
The media sources I think are the most reliable for information are the ones with the .org
or. Gov that is related to health. Another media source could be the USA Department of
Health and the CDC.
7). What is the author using the example of the Marlboro Man to illustrate the dangers of
smoking?
The author uses the Marlboro Man because he was in many cigarette ads and had later in
his older years promoted against it in antismoker advertisements. They also use him as
an example since he died of smoking-related illnesses.
8). Why do you think that very thin models are often featured in advertisements?
I think that very thin models that are often featured in advertisements are used because
that is what society has deemed beautiful and perfect. Other than that, you are not
deemed perfect or beautiful in society’s eyes it is all about image.
9). If you were asked to create a public service announcement to promote health, what topic
would you choose and why?
If I were to create a public service announcement to promote health it would be on
mental health. It would be mental health since that is what people in my generation are
struggling with. We are struggling with anxiety, depression, body image, and confidence.
I think opening the people’s eyes to this problem we can offer more solutions and get
help.
10). Why would it be beneficial to eliminate smoking from high schools?
It would be beneficial to eliminate smoking from high schools since it would help guide
teens onto the right path since they can get into major trouble if found. When caught I
