How do you think that these videos relate to the topic of factors that help determine our
health? Does one video seem more realistic than the other?
Both of these videos relate to the topic of factors that help determine our health
because both present factors that do determine our health, that can help change
the course that our lives were going on for the better. For example, Your genes
are not your fate, it has been stated that the healthier you eat, the more you
manage your stress, and exercise and love you receive the more your brain
actually gets more blood flow and oxygen. With just simply doing that your brain
becomes measurably bigger. Another thing you can do to grow your brain cells is
chocolate, tea, blueberries, alcohol in moderation, stress management and
cannabinoids found in marijuana. With that your skin gets more blood flow and
you age slower. Your heart gets more blood flow resulting in the reverse of heart
disease. Along with that clogged arteries can become unclogged. With those you
may be able to stop progression of early prostate, tumor growth, and breast
cancer. It also stated it gives more flow to organs, helping them work a lot better.
It has been shown that you are able to turn off bad genes and turn on good ones
with this lifestyle, it can even help you fight diseases. The other one video, The
hunt for “unexpected genetic heroes.” It stated that they were looking for
mutations in genetic codes that saved people from getting the disease or sick. So
they were going to study healthy people who had somehow missed the disease
and try to plot out a resilience decoder ring. They are basically trying to undo
faulty and bad genes. One does seem a lot more realistic than the other, Your

genes are not your fate, seems more realistic because we are changing
something that we are able to do, it is in our hands. Decoding and changing our
genes would be great but we do not have that in our grasps quite yet, so the other
is more realistic and easier. You are just changing into a healthier lifestyle.
The first video seems to give a simple message about how leading a more stress-free
life can vastly improve our health. If it’s that simple, why are so many people stressed
and sick?
So many people are stressed and sick because they do not know how to handle
their stress in a healthy way, meaning they do not have coping methods to
release that stress. Another factor is that one may not be able to escape stress
for example they go to work and handle that stress and maybe after calming
themselves they go home and have to deal with their kids, what to have for
dinner, the bills, and the needs of the family. It is stressful and on top of that they
need to take care of themselves which many don't so they stress really impacts
them making their health go downhill resulting in catching a cold or being sick
since their body is handling too many things at once.
In the first video, Dean Ornish closes by saying, “Well, our genes are not our fate, and if
we make these changes, there’s a predisposition. But if we make bigger changes than
we might have made otherwise, we can actually change how our genes are expressed.”
