Summary of an Argument
When writing about your argument, make sure you express your stance with ways to
defend your statement. In chapter 6 of Current Issues and Enduring Questions, they write about
several steps you can take to develop strategies on what to write about and how to write about.
First, you will want to use the brainstorming techniques to build and guide your idea and stance
along. (Barnet et al. 222) Next, you will want to begin using ways to defend you statement. To
gather ideas and counter-arguments, it is best to place yourself in others shoes and begin asking
yourself questions and defenses others may use against you or would want to know. (Barnet et al.
233) You will then want to start formulating how you will present everything and begin writing.
Taking advantage and starting out with an intriguing, captivating opening paragraph will help
you draw the audience in to your paper. (Barnet et al. 240) Fill the body of the work with your
defenses and end strongly by reviewing everything. They eventually will come together but once
you finish writing, there is more to be done. Re-read everything and make sure you don’t fall
into the pitfalls and traps isolating readers. (Barnet et al. 253) Try and utilize all resources that
you have in order to make sure you did not forget to cover anything or leave big plots or
arguments unanswered. (Barnet et al. 254)
