It is not easy to appease everyone, but we all often try to do what is right while trying
our best not to offend everyone. When is being too politically correct, too much? James Garner
rewrote classic fairy tales to reflect more politically correct scenarios in his collection of short
stories. One of them is based on the classic tale, “The Three Little Pigs.” His adaptation, “Tree
Pigs, Vertically Challenged (Politically Correct Three Little Pigs),” is a funny rewrite for modern
adults. The issue with this is, it is not really suitable for children.
The verbiage in the story is too advanced for children. These fairy tales were designed to
teach children morals through a simple concept of right and wrong, but with the adaptation of the
text, it becomes too difficult for children to fully understand everything. At one point the author
wrote the response of one of the pigs as, “‘Go to hell, you carnivorous, imperialistic oppressor,’”
this not only includes language that is unsuitable for children but also includes words that
children rarely understand (Garner). Also, with the hilarious, over-the-top, scenarios with what
the wolves do after they take over a plot of land that was abandoned by the pigs, is entertaining
to an adult but a child would not know the complexity of the joke the author is conveying.
The story is very violent. Not many people actually remember the true original, which is
also very violent, but the Disney and other animated, light-hearted renditions of this story is what
